Position Information

 

This position is responsible for creating and maintaining a successful Track & Field program for the institution. The day-to day reporting will be to the Director of Athletics, or his/her designee, keeping him/her abreast of all planning, organizing and development of the program.

Position Description & Details

 

1. Formulate a successful philosophy to promote the educational welfare and sportsmanship of the student-athlete.

2.Develop a competitive program that will represent the institution and community in a positive manner.

3.Prepare yearly budget for the program.

4.Purchase equipment and uniforms and maintaining records of all purchases.

5.Work with Assistant Director of Athletics for Compliance and Student Life to ensure all players meet applicable eligibility requirements and prepare all necessary forms on a timely basis.

6.Develop practice and competition schedule.

7.Make all travel arrangements for team and recruiting.

8.Conduct fundraising activities to supplement program budget.

9.Work with Assistant Director of Athletics for Communication and Media Relations on providing program information and statistics to media and fans via press releases, media guides, game programs and web site, as applicable.

10.Develop recruitment plan and actively recruit student athletes.

11.Develop and actively participate in a plan to enhance public relations for the Track & Field programs.

12.Track academic progress of student-athletes within the program.

13.Establish and maintain an ethical and moral code of behavior and living that is expected of all players within the program.

14.Develop practice schedules and teach the fundamental skills of the sport.

15.Follow all NCAA, conference, and institutional policies.

16.Actively participate in campus committees and forums.

17.Support the philosophy and mission of the department and institution.

18.Perform all other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

 

Education:       Bachelor’s Degree, required. Master’s Degree, preferred.

Experience:     Coaching, recruiting

This position is best filled by an individual with an undergraduate degree, Master’s preferred. Significant coaching experience with a preference of prior experience at the coordinator level in either a professional or university environment. Ability to identify and recruit outstanding student-athletes is required. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required. A thorough understanding of, and experience with, NCAA and Conference rules and regulations is required. Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate University coaches and athletes is critical; organizational, budget and management skills are imperative. The ability to manage multiple tasks is essential. Knowledge of related computer applications is important. A valid driver’s license is required for travel. This position has non-standard hours and requires the ability to travel with a substantial time commitment during the fall and the spring.

  2. A coach or staff member may be suspended or terminated if found to be involved in deliberate and/or serious violations of NCAA regulations
  3. Rules education, satisfactory rules knowledge and documenting compliance activities are mandatory and athletics personnel will be evaluated on their performance
