Position Summary

Minot State University's (MSU) Department of Biology invites applications for a full time, 9-month tenure track faculty position of Assistant Professor of Biology starting in Fall 2024. The applicant will be expected to teach general introductory biology courses, as well as upper-level courses in the applicant's area of expertise.  Applicants will also be expected to engage undergraduate students in research activities. The department is well-equipped for both teaching and research.  Our resources include a teaching collection of various regional ichthyofauna as well as dedicated individual laboratory space for our new colleague to pursue research.  In addition, the department has a backpack electrofishing unit, a jon boat, and a 20’ electrofishing boat that is equipped for nighttime surveys.  Preference will be given to applicants with expertise in fisheries management, fisheries ecology, aquatic biology, and/or freshwater ecology. Applications will be accepted until position is filled, with review of applications beginning on December 1, 2023.

 

Responsibilities

MSU is a teaching-focused primarily undergraduate institution with opportunities for research. The applicant is expected to develop and teach lectures/labs and involve undergraduates in research experiences. The applicant is also expected to advise students, to serve the department, university, or the public, as well as produce evidence of scholarly activity. Fisheries or Aquatic biologists who can provide field experiences are particularly encouraged to apply.

Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate must have earned a Ph.D. in a relevant field by the start date.

Preference Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates with teaching experience that emphasizes experiential opportunities and an established record of research.
