Position Information

 

Central Grasslands Research Extension Center is seeking applications for Farm Manager.  This is a full-time, benefited position to be located at Central Grasslands REC near Streeter, ND.  The successful candidate would oversee the management of the center’s forage and cropping systems.  The successful candidate will oversee the farm management operations and some cattle management activities, be responsible for all farming activities (cropping and forages) and haying operations.  This position will work closely with the Center Director, Beef Herdsman, and Center Scientists.  This position will also help execute the research projects in the areas of forage production trials, variety trials, cover crop and winter cereal studies, and integrated livestock/cropping trials.  The successful candidate will be expected to supervise the farm technician and work with graduate and undergraduate students. The location of the Research Center offers outstanding opportunities to enjoy a rural lifestyle in a supportive community environment.  Outdoor recreational activities in this area include outstanding waterfowl and upland game hunting for sportsman, easy access to lakes for fishing and watersports, and an excellent environment for bird watching, hiking, biking, and other activities.

Work Schedule: Full-time, 40 hour/week

Advertised Salary: $45,000+ Based on experience and education

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Associate degree in agronomy or other related field of study 
  • Competency in cropping and forage systems of the northern Great Plains
  • Willingness to work in collaboration with agricultural producers, university research and allied industry personnel
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions
  • Ability to lift objects in excess of 50lbs
  • Ability to work in a team environment

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Proven experience with managing a farm that includes grain harvest, silage production, and activities related to hay production
  • Two-years’ experience running a farming operation
  • One-year experience working with forage agronomy
