Description & Details:

2024 ND 4-H Camp Counselor

North Dakota 4-H Camp is seeking summer staff who can provide exceptional customer service, high-quality educational programming, and endless fun for the 400+ campers and volunteers attending 4-H camp for summer 2024.

Staff will supervise campers, ensure their safety and assist with day-to-day operations of the camp programs. Interaction with campers, parents, and guardians is important to assure parents and guardians that youth are in a safe learning environment. General upkeep of facilities is required to ensure that our campers and guests are in a safe, healthy environment. This great opportunity also provides working with North Dakota State University Extension Agents and Specialists who offer programming to our campers.

Requirements:

  • Have a desire and ability to work with youth in the outdoors for extended periods of time.
  • Are willing to embody activities and habits that encourage campers to THRIVE.
  • Supervise camper health and well being
  • Enforcing camp safety regulations
  • Ability to keep up with active groups of children ranging from ages 8-16 years old.
  • Ability to provide necessary and clear instruction and guidance to campers
  • Ability to observe camper behavior through assessing level of appropriateness, enforcing safety regulations and emergency procedures, and applying appropriate behavior-management techniques
  • Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental hazards

Salary and Benefits:

Pay is $600.00 per week plus free room and board.

This experience can be used as an internship in an accepted field of study.

Qualifications:

1. Counselors must be at least 16 years of age.

2. Experience with youth is preferred.

3. Ability to remain calm under stress and use good judgment

4. Ability to work well with a team

5. Positive attitude, responsible, mature

6. Good problem-solving skills, ability to effectively deal with conflict

7. CPR and first aid certification are required and will be provided if needed.

8. Lifeguard certification is desired but not required. If you would like to

become lifeguard certified prior to the camp season we will pay/reimburse

you. Bonus for lifeguard certification

9. 4-H experience is not required.
