Part-time Faculty: Percussion Instructor

Job Summary:

The Department of Fine and Performing Arts at Minot State University (https://www.minotstateu.edu/music/) invites applicants for Adjunct Percussion Instructor. The position requires expertise in traditional/classical percussion, marching percussion/drumline, and drum set. The successful candidate will be expected to:

·         Teach percussion lessons to music majors, music minors, and students enrolled in elective lessons

·         Assist with the MSU Marching Band Drumline during football season

·         Lead the MSU Percussion Ensemble

·         Teach a Percussion Methods course to music education majors

·         Effectively recruit, sustain, and build a percussion studio

·         Oversee and maintain the MSU percussion instrument inventory

Additional Employment Opportunities Associated with the Department of Fine and Performing Arts:

In addition to teaching percussion, there may be additional employment opportunities depending on availability, interest, and the strengths of the candidate hired. Potential opportunities could include:

·         Directing the MSU Concert and Marching Band

·         Teaching Instrumental Methods Course to music education majors

·         Teaching General Education Courses including Music Appreciation, World Music, and/or History of Pop and Rock Music

·         Developing and teaching an online World Music Course (General Education)

·         Directing the MSU Basketball Pep Band

·         Observing student teachers

Minimum Required Qualifications:

·         Masters Degree in Music Performance or Music Education (primary instrument percussion)

·         Evidence of excellence in applied instruction and performance

·         Ability to teach and perform various musical styles/genres

Preferred Qualifications:

·         Doctoral Degree in Music Performance or Music Education (primary instrument percussion)

·         Middle School and/or High School Instrumental Music Teaching Experience

·         Previous College Teaching Experience
