Description & Details:

Transform people’s lives. NDSU Extension empowers North Dakotans to improve their lives and communities through science-based education. Lead dynamic family and community wellness Extension programs in Dunn County, North Dakota. 

  • Develop, plan, deliver, facilitate, and evaluate successful, research-based educational programs in the areas of healthy aging, leadership and civic engagement, parent and family education, and food, nutrition and health that result in positive community impacts. Listen to clientele, build networks to assess locals needs and collaborate with communities of people. 
  • Reach youth and adult audiences. Be a voice in mass and social media outreach. 
  • Share leadership of Dunn County 4-H program including the development of 4-H volunteers. 
  • Willing and able to travel and adjust to a flexible schedule (i.e., participate in evening and weekend programs).

Location:

This position is in the NDSU Extension Dunn County office, located in Manning, ND. Dunn County is located in scenic western North Dakota and has a population of just over 4,000 people. Killdeer, the county’s largest city, is located 10 miles north of Manning and has a population of 939 people. Dickinson, a city of 25,676 people located 25 miles south of Manning, serves as a regional retail center and is home to the Dickinson-Theodore Roosevelt Airport. Dunn County has a total area of 2,082 square miles and has both prairie and badland areas. Located in the northwest part of the county are the Killdeer Mountains. These hills help create a mini-ecosystem on the southern edge of the Little Missouri Badlands, an area with an abundance of aspen forests and wildlife. Little Missouri State Park, found in the northern part of the county, is home to over 40 miles of trails that run through the Badlands and offer breathtaking views. Dunn County is the perfect fit for somebody who enjoys hiking, horseback riding, hunting, picturesque views, and a rural lifestyle. Work Schedule:

  • Monday through Friday
  • 8:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. (MT)
  • Some weekend and evening work required


Advertised Salary:

Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in human development, family and consumer sciences, education, health and nutrition, gerontology or a related field, OR a bachelor’s degree with work experience related to the position or a related master’s degree. 
  2. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, partners, and stakeholders. 
  3. Basic computer skills and ability to use Microsoft office programs such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. 
  4. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with individuals, groups and through mass media. 
  5. Ability to conduct oneself professionally, be self-directed in the work environment and work flexible and extended hours. 
  6. Ability to use technology for communication, information finding, program delivery, and reporting. 
  7. Familiarity with various ethnic and socioeconomic audiences, an interest and ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds. 
  8. Valid driver’s license. 

 
Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Master’s degree in youth/human development, family and consumer sciences, education, gerontology, health and nutrition, or a closely related field. 
  2. Experience recruiting and managing volunteers. 
  3. Experience in designing and delivering educational programs. 
  4. Recent Extension work experience. 
  5. Working knowledge of and experience with 4-H and/or other youth programs. 
  6. Experience with problem solving and conflict management.
